Varun Alagh

Co-founder, Mamaearth

Varun Alagh, born in 1984, is a first-generation entrepreneur who has transformed India's personal care industry through innovation and purpose-driven business practices. An engineer from Delhi College of Engineering and MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur, Alagh spent nearly a decade honing his skills at multinational FMCG giants including Hindustan Unilever (2007-2012), Diageo (2012-2013), and Coca-Cola (2013-2016), where he managed iconic brands like Rexona, Smirnoff, and Coca-Cola across India and South Asia.

In November 2016, when Varun and his wife Ghazal couldn't find toxin-free products for their son Agastya, who was diagnosed with eczema, they decided to create their own solution. This personal challenge led to the founding of Honasa Consumer Private Limited and the launch of Mamaearth, Asia's first MadeSafe-certified brand. Starting with just six baby care products, the digital-first brand addressed a critical gap in India's market, providing honest, natural, and toxin-free personal care products with international standards.

Under Varun's leadership as Co-Founder and CEO, Mamaearth has experienced phenomenal growth, expanding from baby care to personal care with over 140 products across multiple brands. The company achieved unicorn status in 2021, becoming the first Indian D2C brand valued above $1 billion. In 2023, Honasa Consumer launched a historic IPO, marking a significant milestone in their journey. The company reported revenues exceeding ₹964 crore in FY22, reflecting 109% year-over-year growth.

Varun's estimated net worth stands at approximately $14.40 million as of 2023. Beyond building Mamaearth, he has made 40 strategic investments in startups across various sectors, including Solar Ladder, Neodocs, and KikiBix. Through Mamaearth's Plant Goodness initiative, the company has planted over 3 million trees and recycled more than 1,000 metric tons of plastic, demonstrating Varun's commitment to environmental sustainability alongside business success.
