Lenskart CEO and Shark Tank investor
Peyush Bansal, born April 26, 1985, in New Delhi, is the co-founder and CEO of Lenskart, India's leading eyewear retail chain, and a prominent investor on Shark Tank India. After attempting IIT entrance exams unsuccessfully, Peyush pursued electrical engineering at McGill University, Canada (2002-2006), followed by a management program at IIM Bangalore (2008-2009). He initially worked at Microsoft in the United States before returning to India to pursue entrepreneurship.
In 2007, Peyush founded SearchMyCampus, a college classifieds portal, which taught him valuable lessons about the Indian market. In 2010, he co-founded Lenskart with Amit Chaudhary and Sumeet Kapahi, initially selling contact lenses online before expanding to eyeglasses and sunglasses. The venture addressed a critical gap: quality eyewear for India's 600+ million people needing vision correction. Starting with skepticism from investors and consumers about buying eyewear online, Peyush built Lenskart through innovation, customer-centric policies, and omnichannel presence combining e-commerce with 2,000+ physical stores.
Under Peyush's leadership, Lenskart achieved unicorn status in 2019 when SoftBank invested $275 million at a $1 billion valuation. The company has raised over $1 billion from investors including SoftBank, Temasek, KKR, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, and iconic Indian entrepreneurs like Ratan Tata and Azim Premji. In October 2025, Lenskart launched its IPO aiming to raise $828 million. With an estimated net worth of ₹600 crore and annual salary of ₹28 crore, Peyush owns 8.21% equity in the company valued at ₹32,000 crore. His "Do More, Be More" philosophy and reluctant yet impactful participation in Shark Tank India have made him one of the show's most admired judges and a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs.
