CEO of Ajmal Perfumes
Abdulla Ajmal is the CEO of Ajmal Perfumes, a third-generation leader of the family-owned fragrance empire founded by his grandfather, Haji Ajmal Ali, in 1951 in Mumbai (then Bombay). The company, which began when Haji Ajmal Ali, a rice farmer from Hojai, Assam, ventured into trading precious oud (agarwood) with just ₹500 capital, has grown into a multi-million dollar perfumery house with over 300 fragrances, presence in 60+ countries, and 300+ exclusive retail outlets globally, managing estimated revenues exceeding ₹1,475 crore.
Born in Mumbai and having moved to the UAE in 1988, Abdulla gained international exposure in the UK before returning to Dubai to develop Ajmal's French-aligned fragrance lines. Previously serving as Chief Operating Officer, he was instrumental in expanding the brand's retail and distribution network, transforming Ajmal from a primarily oriental perfumery into a full-fledged global fragrance house. Mentored by his late uncle Nazir Ajmal, an esteemed master perfumer, and renowned French perfumer Jacques Chabert, Abdulla has blended traditional Arabic perfumery with contemporary fragrance innovation.
Under his leadership as CEO, Abdulla is spearheading AI integration, sustainability initiatives, and progressive strategies while maintaining the brand's unique farm-to-fragrance approach, controlling the entire value chain from sourcing raw materials to retail. His grandfather's afforestation program initiated in 1979 has planted over 10 million trees in Northeast India, providing employment and financial independence to women in the Assam region. With 60% of Ajmal's factory operating sustainably and plans for complete water recycling, Abdulla honors his grandfather's vision while modernizing operations.
